Mitsubishi Brazil Rolls Out Limited-Edition Triton Savana, Only 80 Units Available
The Brazilian subsidiary of Mitsubishi has recently launched a rugged specification of the Triton, a mid-size pickup that is also known as L200 in certain markets. Limited to 80 units, the Triton Savana for the Federative Republic of Brazil offers a wading depth of 800 millimeters (31.5 inches), up from 500 millimeters (19.7 inches) for lesser trim levels.

Before anything, how much do prospective customers have to shell out for one? Mitsubishi advertises it from 349,990 reais, which is approximately 65,400 dollars at current exchange rates. By comparison, the most basic Triton available to configure right now in Brazil is 265,990 reais, or just around 49,700 dollars.

Derived from the Katana trim level, the Savana distinguishes itself from the Katana with a snorkel/desert air intake on the passenger side, a black-painted roof rack with anti-scratch coating, plenty of cladding, and 18-inch black alloy wheels. Pictured in eye-catching Rally Yellow, the Triton Savana is available in Forest Green as well.

Graphite matter gray beautifies the front grille, door moldings, front bumper, and flares to boot. Steel rock sliders are standard as well, along with a recovery board and a shovel. The aforementioned roof rack is rated for dynamic load capacity at 50 kilograms (110 pounds), resulting in a much higher static limit.

Underbody protection and 265/60 by 18-inch tires from Goodyear also need to be highlighted. Only available in dual-cab flavor, the Savana tows up to 3,500 kilograms (7,716 pounds). Maximum payload, meanwhile, is 1,000 kilograms (2,205 pounds).

Only available with a torque-converter automatic, the Savana is equipped with the SS4-II system. That means four-wheel drive with 4H, 4HLc, and 4LLc modes, along with the fuel-saving 2H mode. 4LLc is the most interesting one for this application, with Lc meaning locked center diff in this context.

A driver-selectable rear diff lock, active yaw control, and four off-road terrain modes help the Savana a lot when venturing off the beaten path. Under the hood, the Nissan-controlled automaker decided on a 2.4-liter turbo diesel inline-four mill with 205 metric horsepower (202 mechanical horsepower) and 347 pound-feet (470 Newton-meters) of twist.

A bi-turbo diesel with an aluminum die-cast block, the 4N16 of the Savana nets 21.9 miles per gallon (10.8 liters per 100 kilometers) in the city and 24.3 miles per gallon (9.7 liters per 100 kilometers) on the highway. As expected from a modern diesel, selective catalytic reduction is featured, with the DEF tank holding 17 liters (4.5 gallons) of AdBlue.

9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with full smartphone integration, a wireless charging pad, 7.0 inches of digital instrumentation, push-button start, and dual-zone automatic climate control are standard in the Savana, as are the 360-degree camera system and Active Lane Departure Warning. Vulcanized rubber flooring brings the point home, and it's an interesting contrast when accounting for the standard leather upholstery.
