2019 Toyota Rav4 to debut at New York International Auto Show
Look for a far more rugged design in Toyota's bestseller

The new 2019 Toyota Rav4 is finally arriving this month at the 2018 New York International Auto Show. The current Rav4 has been on sale since early 2013, making it significantly older than competitors like the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 and Chevy Equinox. This is Toyota's bestselling vehicle in America (yes, better than the Camry), so the Japanese automaker can't afford to screw this up.

While Toyota has only released a single teaser image, spy shots have given us a slightly better look at the new crossover. It's going to have a far more rugged appearance, drawing a lot of influence from the FT-AC concept. Toyota is trying to inject a bit of enthusiasm back into its lineup, so a rugged Rav4 would compliment the new sporty-looking Camry.

Expect significantly upgraded powertrains and active safety equipment and more than a little shared under the skin with the Toyota C-HR. The two are based on the same TNGA platform. The current model is one of the few compact crossovers still available with a V6. While it would be great for that engine to carry over, we're not getting our hopes up.
